Mila Yaneva-Tabakova lives in Sofia, where she works as an illustrator and graphic designer. She is the co-founder of a platform for independent publications, TI-RE. Her artistic education was in the areas of illustration, print graphics, and comics, and she attended both the National Academy of Art in Sofia and the LUCA School of Arts, Brussels. She recently completed her PhD dissertation on alternative comics and is currently teaching Illustration at the National Academy of Art in Sofia. She has participated in biennales and illustration festivals in Bratislava, Riga, Antwerp, Prague, and Bologna.

Yaneva-Tabakova has illustrated and designed books by Valeri Petrov, Rada Moskova, Dodie Smith, Mary Shelley, and Oscar Wilde. She has published two graphic novels – On the Way, 2021, and The First Five, 2023. Another book with her illustrations, Fonchito & The Moon, by Mario Vargas Llosa, is forthcoming.
